The Center on Instruction (COI) is one of five national content centers, part of the Comprehensive Center network, that is funded by the Office of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Office of Special Education Programs at the U.S. Department of Education. COI is a resource for the 16 Regional Comprehensive Centers as they serve state education leaders helping schools and districts, particularly those in the lowest performing schools, close achievement gaps, raise student achievement, and improve teaching and learning for all students. As we continually expand our collection of evidence-based resources, we are cognizant of the federal priorities and initiatives such as the School Improvement Grants (SIG), Race to the Top, Early Learning Challenge, and other birth-to-college-and-career educational challenges.

While COI's primary clients are the Regional Comprehensive Centers and state departments of education, our resources may be useful for a much broader audience that includes school and district educators as well as technical assistance providers. We encourage educators working to turn around the lowest performing schools such as School Improvement Grants (SIG) grantees and/or those implementing College and Career Ready Standards, including the Common Core State Standards, to explore our collection of resources; effective instruction is one of the key elements of school improvement strategies.
